What is an FPSO?
An FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit) is a floating vessel used by the offshore oil & gas industry to process and store hydrocarbons extracted from subsea reservoirs. These vessels receive crude oil or gas from subsea wells, process it onboard, and store the stabilized product until it can be offloaded to shuttle tankers or pipelines.
FPSOs are critical solutions for deepwater and remote offshore fields where traditional infrastructure is not feasible. They offer mobility, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, making them a worldwide cornerstone of offshore production strategies.
With increasing demand for faster, safer, and more cost-effective operations, FPSOs are evolving through digital technologies, advanced asset management, and new engineering approaches — key themes explored at the FPSO World Congress.
